Superfast Broadband now available in Launceston - UPDATED

I posted last month about my frustration with the lack of information coming out of the Superfast Broadband programme. It's a great scheme which will put Cornwall ahead of most of the UK - but it's next to impossible to find out when a particular area will be connected.

The good news is that Launceston is among the first areas to see the roll out and that parts are already connected. It appears that the connected area is the top end of Western Road (the end nearest the A30) and at least part of St Johns Road. Tregadillet is also connected.

I wish I could give more detail about the extent of the area connected and when other areas might be switched on, but the Council won't say. If you want to check whether your home is connected, click here.

UPDATE - I've now been told that the extent of the connected area includes:

Tregadillet, Trebursey, Trevallette, Launceston – St Johns Road, Woburn Road, Castle Meadows, Western Road (end towards Pennygillam) and parts of Pennygillam (mainly Quarry Crescent and Pennygillam Way)

Hi Alex

Will we need to pay more to have access to this facility? Can't wait for it to get to Priory Park!

Yes, unfortunately, you will. The rules mean that, although BT are doing the infrastructure work, the ability to offer services has to be open to other companies. This will hopefully drive down the price a bit, but they are still a chunk more than current services.
If you look at the site linked to above you can get an idea of some of the services on offer and how much they cost.

Alex,
I have also been very frustrated trying to get any more information about when areas will be enabled.

We are a business located on Pennygillam way and all of the online checkers (including BT) indicate that FTTC is not available.

I have also checked the phone number for Warrens on the corner of Quarry crescent and Pennygillam Way they cannot get FTTC either.

Can you tell me where your information has come from?

Hi Mike
It came from the Superfast Cornwall team. They told me that the tope end of Western Road and the bottom of the Pennygillam Estate had been connected. I've checked and properties around St John's Road are up. I'll check further for you on your area.

Hi Mike
I've checked with the Superfast Team and they are happy to help. Could you contact her directly onlucy@superfastcornwall.org with your phone number and address, and she can look into your individual case and see what the situation is with your line. She says the same applies for any other businesses that are having problems, she is happy to look into their individual queries.
