As regular readers will know, the Council's Director of Environment, Planning and Economy raised the subject during an appearance before a House of Commons Select Committee. This caused a lot of annoyance among the tourist industry and led to hasty denials by the Council itself.
I blogged before about the need to set this issue to bed and so yesterday I asked the question at full council. Councillor Ridgers, the new portfolio holder, made it clear that there is no Council policy in favour of a tourist tax and there would not be so long as he had anything to do with it.
That's all very clear then.
Except that Cornwall Council's own lead tourism officer has a meeting scheduled for next week with Tourism Minister John Penrose to discuss a tourist tax. If Cornwall has no policy on the subject, why the heck is an officer having meetings with the Government to discuss it?
Once again, it looks like the Conservative led council doesn't know what it is doing.

To be honest, in my experience, most Councils don't know what they are doing. Right hand does not usually communicate with left hand.
