Backing St Piran's Day as a public holiday

At the last full council meeting, I asked whether the Council supported the idea of St Piran's Day being a public holiday. I got a mainly supportive answer from Culture Portfolio Holder Joan Symons.

Now several colleagues have submitted a motion for the next full council meeting backing the idea and seeking to make it formal council policy.

The motion links the move to the Government consultation on changing the current May Day holiday to a different day. The motion reads:

Cornwall Council notes the recent government white paper on changing bank holidays and instructs the chief executive to respond that any change in Cornwall should lead to the creation of a public holiday on St Piran's Day to reflect our unique cultural heritage.
